So I did come back for a few posts. The Disturbing Picture topic made me laugh big time. My comment there was a bit out of place, but well I just wanted to say it. So I did.

Lets bring this back, since its relevant again. Also I lost my passwords on Caro's fanboard, so...

Funny thing is, I didn't hate the new song as much as I wanted too. Its called A looking In View and William Duval seems to have a decent enough voice to be on the side of Jerry.
Ofcourse its no Layne, and I dont know if I ever want to hear the whole album, the thought of someone replacing Layne is still very weird, but it could've been way worse.

I think the band are okay, not really a fan of this sort of thing but Alice in Chains always had a great riff somewhere.

Oh I haven't had the guts or the will to hear the new song yet lol, I doubt I will!

WOAH, this is totally scary!

Hope, a new beginning
Time, time to start living
Just like just before we died

There's no going back to the place we started from.

Thats said in the first song of the album. A statement that hits me hard, very hard, cause yeah, its true. Lyrically one of the best songs, and therefore the more emotional, of the album.
What shocked me even more is that this album sounds like AiC. Like their best b-side material they never wrote. Yeah, Layne brought emotion in the music, but Jerry IS the music, arrangements, harmonic lines. A conclusion I have to make after hearing this album, cause this sounds like Dirt, without much of the depression and heartfelt singing that Layne gave it. Maybe thematically more like Facelift, I alwas thougfht that album was less depressing, more uplifting too, in tone and lyrics.

I was afraid of Duvall, if he took a big frontrole with the singing, what would happen. The obvious thing happened, the roles are switched now. Cantrell is more like the lead singer, while Duvall is doing Harmonics. Hurtms me too say this, but he is doing a decent job at it. Ofcourse, all the lines are written in whiney AiC fashion and Duivall can handle that, so he sounds a bit like Layne.

Truth be told, its good. Its dark, there's heavy riffage, spooky guitar lines and a very dense mood. Cantrell's singing is alot better then it used to be and Duvall is complimenting him nicely. Sure, I miss something, as said before. Layne's emotion is absent, and unless Duvall is going to be heavily traumatised by the death of his beloved teddy bear, or fame gets to his head and he gets totaly whacky, I never see him coming near to the emotion Layne brought to his delivery.
So, for now, this is an AiC with a more positive vibe, who is eager too move on. Well, musically its as good as ever and sometimes the lyrics shine trough also. (First and last 2 tracks) It still kinda leaves me with a weird taste, but sadly I cant say its bad!
